I have been tagged by Maria Grace at Random Bits of Fascination. Being tagged as The Next Big Thing means I have to answer questions about my Work In Progress (WIP – the story I’m currently writing). Basically, I’m interviewing myself.
So… here we go:
What is the working title of your book?
I actually have four WIPs, and since I’m interviewing myself, I’ll include a bit about each of them.
The first is All Hallow’s Eve, which is in the final stages before publishing.
Another is Foundation of Love, but I’m confident that title will change.
The third I’m calling The Blessing: Regency, and it is related to the fourth, which is called The Blessing: Modern for the moment.
Edited 1/5/13 to add: All Hallow’s Eve is now published. I’ve combined Foundation of Love and The Blessing: Modern into one story – now tentatively named The Gypsy Blessing: Foundation of Love.
Where did the idea come from for the book?
All Hallow’s Eve came from research. I had been trying to keep myself from starting to type up all my ideas for the story I was going to do for NaNoWriMo, and since it was September, I thought I’d write a short story for Halloween. Once I started researching Halloween, AHE appeared in my mind.
The Blessing: Modern was born during a writer’s block. When those dreaded things pop up, I go to a web site that gives writing prompts and look through them. This time, I chose several and made a list – and that list became The Blessing: Modern. In The Blessing: Modern, the heroine receives a letter from an ancestor who lived 200 years ago, and I started having dreams about what happened to cause her to write that letter. That story is the prequel The Blessing: Regency.
Foundation of Love was from a dream.
What genre does your book fall under?
All are Austen-inspired. Is there an official name for the genre?
All Hallow’s Eve is paranormal Regency romance with suspense.
The Blessing: Regency is romance with a paranormal twist (not as heavy on paranormal as AHE) and The Blessing: Modern has a similar paranormal elements.
Foundation of Love is modern romance with suspense.

Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?
I’d much rather allow the reader picture who they’d like than tell them who I see when I’m writing.
What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?
You have no idea how difficult that question is for me. I’ve taken three writing workshops on how to do this, and I still can’t do it well – but here is what I came up with:
All Hallow’s Eve : Elizabeth Bennet, leader of a secret cult, must accept the arrogant Fitzwilliam Darcy as her soul mate and protector to save the world from Evil.
Foundation of Love: While incredibly attracted to one another, hard-nosed building contractor William Darcy doesn’t trust love, and Elizabeth Bennet, an architectural intern working on his latest project, wants nothing to do with such a rude man.
The Blessing: Regency: After saving a stranger from harm, Elizabeth Bennet is rewarded with a magical blessing that will guarantee her future happiness—if she only believes.
The Blessing: Modern : Elizabeth Bennet begins to receive photos on her cell phone that predict the future.
Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?
I’m not sure if all of these will be published, but if they are, they will be self-published. The first draft of AHE was published online, and the other first drafts will be published online at BeyondAusten.com.
How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?
The only manuscript I have a completed first draft for is All Hallow’s Eve. It took about two years from conception to the completion of the first draft, but there were many other things going on during that time.
What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?
Hmmm… I’m not sure what to compare them to. I think the closest one to The Blessing would be A Little Bit Psychic by Aimee Avery, but it really isn’t much like that one, either. There might be stories closer to mine, but I haven’t read them yet (although they are probably on my kindle waiting for me to read!)
Who or What inspired you to write this book?
Gayle Mills and Robin Helm are always the people who keep me writing when all hope is gone!
What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?
I make every attempt to write my stories so that someone who has never read Pride and Prejudice can enjoy them, as well as those who love Jane Austen as much as I do.
